Lawn Renovation in Three Easy Steps

Home Lawn reno

You can not only renovate your lawn. You can even reshape it the way you want. Start in spring, that is the best time, as lawn renovation requires aeration and fertilization. Once the grass starts to grow, you must set up a mowing routine. In this article we will be dealing with lawn renovation in three basic ways: mowing, repairing worn patches and removing hollows and humps.

To do lawn renovation you will need the following:

A Rotary mower fitted with a grass collection bag (or box);
Liquid or granular fertilizer;
A spade or a half moon edging tool;
A garden fork or a hand fork;
Watering can;
A section of new turf and
Some top soil.

Optionally you may need: lawn seed and pelleted manure or granular fertilizer.

Step One: You can get the overgrown lawn grass under control by mowing in stages. If the grass is too long, then leave the grass collection box off the mower and rake up the debris. It will begin to grow again and compete and suppress the weeds. Cut the lawn to about a height of 5 cm. in spring. Then you can fertilize the soil and use the weed killer to get rid of the weeds. You can continue mowing till the grass reaches the height you want it to be. You can do this by lowering the blade height in the mower in stages. Weeds such as plantains and dandelions can be destroyed using the lawn weed killer, applied at the prescribed rate. If you are environment conscious and want to do the weed removal in the organic way, dig out the weeds either with an old kitchen knife or a lawn weeding tool. This will lay bare the lumps and the hollows in the landscape.

Step Two: For repairing bad patches, lay the plank close to the edge of the patch that is damaged. Use either the spade or the half-moon edger to cut out a rectangle around the damaged spot in the lawn. Loosen the surface soil with a fork. Apply organic manure or fertilizer and then firm up the soil. Lay the new turf over the patch and fit it using a sharp knife or the edger. Check for levelness and correct it accordingly using soil. Water it in and do not allow the area to dry out.

Step Three: If there are hollows or humps, make a cut across the hollow or the hump, to reach just further than the affected part. Using the spade, lift back the first flap gently so the it doesn’t break or crack. If it is a hollow, fill it with topsoil or compost and bring it to the level of the adjacent area. Step on it to remove residual air. If it is a hump, use a spade or a trowel, according to the size of the hump, and remove the excess soil. Replace the turf. Check to see if it is at the same level as the surrounding area and firm it down. Fill the cuts with either topsoil or compost. Water the area well.

Depending on the growth of the grass and the weeds, it may take time to do the lawn renovation, but basically the above three steps should get the lawn renovation job done. Patience is required as it is a tiring job and results are not immediate. But once the lawn renovation is complete, you might be the envy of all your neighbors and may even become a consultant on lawn renovation.

A roof is much essential and provides two important functions for your home and business. Mostly it protects you together with your belongings from the adverse weather effects such as rain, snow, wind as well as all other types of weather conditions. Roofs also provide crucial structural support to a home or building. However, replacements and repairs often comes at a considerable expense. Depending on the kind of roof, the season that you want repairs or replacements be done, and other factors, the estimates usually vary. This simply means that there are some factors that influence the process of roof replacement. The following are some of these factors.

Roofing Materials

One of the commonly used materials during roof replacement is the asphalt material shingle. It’s very common and works great for a wide range of styles of roofs. The second type is rubberized materials. This type of material is cost-effectiveness, durable and also leak proof. It requires less maintenance costs due to its flexibility and light weight.
